This week its the Dyson dc31 animal.

This is the best out of all the Dyson handhelds, there fore 'the' best handheld there is. The different hand held's consist of:

The dc16 witch takes 30 Min's to charge and runs at 36 AW for 6 Min's.
The dc16 animal witch is the same as the dc16 standard but has the addition of a power turbine head.

The dc30 witch takes 3 hours 30 Min's to charge and runs at 40 AW for 6 Min's.

The dc31 witch takes 3 hours 30 Min's to charge and runs at 'either' 36 AW for 10 Min's or 65 AW for 6 Min's.

And finally, The dc31 animal witch is exactly the same as the dc31 but has the addition of a powered turbine head for pet hair removal. NOTE: the dc31 standard can not run this power head.

Also the new generation of Dyson handhelds (dc30+dc31) use Dyson's new digital motor.
This uses neodymium magnets and instead of brushes that weir out and fail, it uses a chip to switch the current to give the impulses to drive it round. This means it is more reliable, energy efficient, more powerful and produces no carbon emissions. The dc30 uses the DDM and the dc31's use the DDMV2.

But back to the dc31 animal, included in the box is: the dc31animal, charger, instruction booklet, story of Dyson, registration guide, crevice tool, combination dusting brush and upholstery/stair tool (same as what you get with the dc24) and the powered turbine head. It cost me £115 from Costco whole sailors on offer but the normal prices are £100 (and falling because its end of line) for the dc16, £100 for the dc30, £134 for the dc31 and £150 for the dc31 animal. But in my opinion they are worth the money they 'are' the best handheld cleaner you can get because of the digital motors, root cyclone technology (never lose suction) and high suction power etc. They are grate for those tasks where you don't want to pull out a big cleaner and just want to get it done quickly such as dusting, spills (non-wet), upholstery, stairs, the car and more. As for emptying it couldn't be simpler, you just put it over a bin, push the trigger and out comes the dirt. As for maintenance there is one pre filter you take out about once a month, run under cold water, leave to dry and put back in. There is not a post filter because of course the motor produces no carbon.

FAULTS

I haven't found any faults at all on the actual cleaner, the only thing i have found some on is the power head. The power head on the dc31 animal has been very much improved from the one on the dc16 animal, such as giving it a pivoting action and and angled brushes on the brush roll for side cleaning. But there is a few flours Ive found such as dirt is allowed to leak into the pivoting mechanism and grit that gets caught in it causes it not to pivot as smoothly and scratches. and this dirt leak also gets into the belt casing and you can see fluff and pet hair leaking through the gaps. And Finlay the lip at the front and back of the sole plate get dirt and debris on it the when you tilt it at a angle comes of and goes either onto the floor or were you just cleaned. Although that is just being very nit picky and otherwise it does a brilliant job!

In conclusion,

the dc31 animal is and amazing little cleaner and definately is a grate tool for day to day use. I would strongly recommend buying one as it is handheld, easy, fun cleaning at its best!
